Mini Transat 2023 – 1st Stage completed

CARLOS MANERA, SAILER OF THE PORT DE LA SELVA YACHT CLUB, WINNER OF THE 1st STAGE OF THE MINITRANSAT 2023!!!

This morning, at 9:18:38 (peninsular time), Carlos Manera, skipper of the XUCLA boat, crossed the finish line in first position, leading a very exciting arrival in Santa Cruz de la Palma.

After 9 days 19h 40min 38s, 1,300 miles (3,000 km), and years of preparation, including the construction of the new boat, it has been for Carlos a dream come true!

The weather throughout the route has been very varied.

Starting with 2 cold fronts in Finisterre, with gusts of 35 kn and waves of 3.5 m, where Carlos was leading; going through an anticyclone that calmed them for half the coast of Portugal; until at last they caught the trade winds.

The arrival on the island of La Palma was a real heart attack; a group arriving from the North and Carlos who took the strategy of arriving from the East, a decision that has led him to obtain this INCREDIBLE RESULT.

Once again, Carlos has shown an extraordinary job as a skipper and a great physical and mental preparation, the result of his effort and work.

But the regatta does not end here, now it's time to enjoy the success with family and friends, rest and regain strength to face the tough second stage, which will leave Santa Cruz de la Palma for the Caribbean, on next October 28.
